Anyone who knows me has probably heard me preach, explain, complain, and even argue that social media is an evil, and we would all be better off without it. About 6 or 7 years ago, I had all the outlets available, but I made a decision to cut myself off from social media completely. I work with the youth at my local church and have said to them many times, "If you want to improve your relationship with God, get rid of your social media." Here we are 6 years later, and I don't think a single person listened to me. Apparently, social media is so engrained in the lives of today's generation that warnings will fall on deaf ears.
WHY NOW?
So, you might be thinking, What are you doing here ,Vladimir?? To be honest, I don't really know, yet. One thing I did realize is that what I was saying before wasn't much help. Perhaps, just perhaps, there is a way to reach people right where they are. I haven't changed my mind about social media and remain convinced that it negatively influences people and many people's lives are being drained by the vacuum that is sucking a lot of time, happiness and Godliness out of them; but if the social media trend is a fact we have to accept then maybe we can do just a little bit to have some sort of positive influence. Why is it that everyone who has something immoral, twisted, secular, and empty to say has the ear of our youth? For the most part, it could be because our youth is actually interested in whatever content social media feeds, but perhaps, to a smaller degree, it's because that's what is abundantly available.
MISSION
I don't know who will actually read anything I have to say. I preach at youth about every other week and have to believe it has some influence, that God sent messages that did their work. If I can use another pulpit and have an additional chance to speak to the youth, I probably need to take it. Will it work? I don't know, but if I have a chance to try, I'll try even this to reach at least someone.
