The other day, my year 4 old daughter, Emma, came home from school (she is in pre-k) and said "Mom, kids in my school don't know who Jesus is" My wife wondered why she would say something like that and asked her "Why would you think that?" and she said "Because I asked them if they know Jesus, and they said no" Now, I wouldn't expect pre-k'ers, who many still wear diapers, to know much about Jesus, but it got me thinking... What prompted Emma to ask a question like that? I never taught her that, no one instructed her to do that, where did it come from? and why is it so rare these days?
Complexities
When the disciples asked Jesus "Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" ...He answered something that I think no one expected-- "Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven" That is a pretty serious statement. Being like a child is a prerequisite not only to a certain status in heaven, it is necessary to get there! Today we have become so complex, everyone has an angle, everyone has a special approach you have to take, and simplicity and being child like is hard to come by. At what point does a child, with all of their innocence transforms into such a complex being that we encounter today?
Hosea 4:6
The questions stands, but how often does it get asked? Do you know Jesus? If you do, have you asked your friends if they do? Or perhaps that adult in us gets in the way. People are doomed for lack of knowledge. The truth about the redemption in Jesus is the most value knowledge you will ever obtain. If you have it, share it, if you don't, seek it.
